Jesus is Better

The story of Sarah cannot be separated from Abraham any more than Abraham’s can be separated from Sarah. She, like her husband was called to leave her homeland to live in Canaan. The particular promise to Sarah was that she would bear a son. However, this promise seemed impossible because Sarah was barren and past the age of bearing children. Yet, God promised that she would become the mother of nations. In obedience to God and in submission to her husband Sarah too left all that she knew and went to Canaan to dwell in tents. She entered the unknown and lived as a foreigner believing that the God who promised was faithful. And this is what we will see this Sunday. That if we would live by faith then we too must be willing to submit ourselves to the promises of God, believing that he who has promised will surely bring it to pass. And while it might seem to be against all odds, we trust that nothing is impossible with God. To come prepared for worship take time this week to read and meditate upon Hebrews 11:11-12, Genesis 15:1-6, Psalm 27:14, Isaiah 54:1, Matthew 1:21, Romans 4:20-21, and this article on the faith of Sarah. 

As we gather this fourth Sunday of Advent, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Angels We Have Heard on High,” the Acclamation of Praise “Silent Night,” and the Hymn of Response “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
