In Your Right Mind
Series: A Song For Every Season: A Study in the Psalms Scripture: Psalm 19:1–14
It has become increasingly clear that we are living in a world of uncertainty and confusion. Nothing is a given any more. How then are we to find focus and peace? In Psalm 19:14 we read this prayer,
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 ESV)
This is what Psalm 19 is about. It is about how we get our words and our thoughts in line with the Lord. It is about seeing the world in a way that is consistent with God’s truth. The hardships of the pandemic and the upheaval in culture has caused many of us to feel worn-out. And the reason we are feeling deflated, defeated, and frustrated is because we are not in a right state of mind. We have been given over to thinking that is shaped more by the voices of culture, the voices of media, and the internal voices of fear than we have by the divine voice of truth. What we will see in our Psalm for this morning, however, is that if we would be in our right mind, we must all hear God speaking in Creation, in Scripture, and in Correction. To come prepared for the sermon, take time this week to read and to meditate upon Psalm 19, Mark 5:1-20, Romans 1:18-21, and Westminster Confession of Faith 1.
As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Tell Out, My Soul, the Greatness of the Lord”, the Acclamation of Praise “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” and the Hymn of Response “How Firm A Foundation.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
