This series is entitled, "Serving God." Our children will focus on what it means to be God’s servant. Using stories from both the Old and New Testaments, the children will study the lives of Bible men and women who served God faithfully. They will be taught that a faithful servant of God is someone who responds in trust to God’s saving love and relies on God for power to serve him.
The first unit, Lessons 1–3, focuses on this theme in the lives of David, Samson and Joshua. The children learn that these men did extraordinary feats because they knew that God is faithful and they relied on His strength, not their own.
In the second unit of study, Lessons 4-6, the children begin to focus on what it means to be faithful in service. These lessons provide examples of three women who served God patiently and hopefully in difficult situations. Naaman’s servant girl, Queen Esther and Ruth the Moabite demonstrated fortitude and loyalty, and, more important, complete trust in God as they put their lives – and the lives of other – in His hands.
The third unit, Lessons 7 – 13, emphasizes serving others in love. As the children focus on New Testament servants, they will learn that God’s faithful workers serve him in humble trust, recognizing their sin and the greatness of His forgiveness. God’s workers confess Jesus as Savior, proclaim the message of the Gospel to people everywhere and encourage God’s covenant children in their faith.
These lessons will help the children look beyond Bible men and women to see that God is faithful to them. It is our prayer and aim that children will respond eagerly to this truth, willing to discover how they can obediently serve their loving and trustworthy heavenly Father.
