Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

St. Augustine (b. 354) described the relationship between the Old and New Testament in these words, “The new is in the old concealed; the old is in the new revealed.” As we continue through the book of Numbers we repeatedly see how the message of Christ is concealed within the text. This week we come to chapter 19 of Numbers, in which the Lord provides cleansing from contact with the dead through the sacrifice of a red heifer. This sacrifice points us to the importance of the sacrifice of Christ, and in particular the power of his shed blood to deliver his people from the curse of death. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 19, Colossians 1:20, Hebrews 9:12-22 and Westminster Confession of Faith 8.

As we gather to worship our Prophet, Priest, and King this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Arise, My Soul, Arise”, the Acclamation of Praise “Jesus Paid it All” and the Hymn of Response “Nothing but the Blood” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
