What is your favorite thing to grumble about? I think that we all have something that truly gets under our skin. Something that we feel compelled to complain about. Maybe it is traffic or bad grammar. We grumble about our government or our families. In Numbers 11, the people of Israel begin to grumble about their situation and their food. Traveling provides us with all sorts of grumbling fodder. And they were beginning to indulge. Yet their grumbling lead to nothing good. In this passage we are each encouraged to stop grumbling by remembering all that the Lord has done, is doing, and will do for us in Christ. To come prepared for the sermon, take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 11:1-15, Psalm 78, Philippians 2:14 and Westminster Larger Catechism #193.
As we gather to worship our loving Father this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Processional Hymn “Vast The Immensity, Mirror of Majesty”, the Acclamation of Praise “Man of Sorrows! What a Name” and the Hymn of Response “Rejoice, the Lord is King.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
