Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

Our sermon series through Numbers is called, “The Journey Home.” However, over the last eight sermons, Israel hasn’t gone anywhere. They haven’t taken a journey. They have only been prepared for their journey. As we continue in chapter nine and through chapter ten, Israel finally begins their journey to the land of Canaan. The command to march forth has been sounded. Yet, after all the preparation and all the build-up, the actual moment of embarking can be unsettling. What is out there in the wilderness? How will we eat? How will we know the way? In our passage the Lord encourages His people and seeks to calm their worries. He promises to His people that He will be with them, that He will direct them by His word and that he will guide them by His good providence. To come prepared for the sermon, take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 9:15-10:36, Psalm 68, Hebrews 11:8-10 and Westminster Confession of Faith 5.

This week we will celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during our worship service. As we receive the elements of bread and wine we look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. For as we physically receive the signs of the Lord’s body and blood, spiritually we feed upon Him and all His benefits. Our hymns for this week include “See, the Conqueror Mounts in Triumph,” “At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing,” and “All the Way My Savior Leads Me”
