Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

Numbers chapter 7 can read a bit like a year-end giving receipt; repetitive details of who gave what to whom. Over the past few weeks we have received an accounting of all the charitable gifts that we have given in 2017 so that we can claim them as deductions. Yet more than a tax deduction, these year-end statements are a good witness of our approach to money and giving to the kingdom of God. In Numbers 7 we have a list of the gifts given by each tribe at the dedication of the tabernacle. While at first this list seems a bit tedious, on closer inspection, we see how God’s people respond to His gracious presence through offering their lives as a spiritual sacrifice. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 7:1 - 8:4, Romans 12:1-13, Hebrews 13:15-16 and Westminster Confession of Faith 8.

As we gather to offer ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!”, the Acclamation of Praise “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” and the Hymn of Response “My Worth Is Not in What I Own”.  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
