Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

If we are saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, how were people saved prior to the coming of Christ? This is a very common question. And it has received several different answers throughout the years. Nevertheless, the consistent answer of God’s Word is that the only way to the Father is through the Son. Faith in the saving work of God in Christ is the only means of salvation. This truth does not mean that those who lived previous to Christ were without hope. Rather it means that just as we look back in faith they looked forward in faith. God graciously gave signs and shadows that led his people to faith in the coming sacrifice of Christ. No one was saved by the law nor by being born of the proper family. Rather the means of salvation has always been faith in the salvation of God. As we come to Numbers 9, we will see this truth reflected in the regulations of the Passover celebration. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 9:1-14, 1 Corinthians 5:7, Galatians 3:7-9 and Westminster Confession of Faith 8.6.

As we gather to worship our loving Father this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Processional Hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King”, the Acclamation of Praise “And Can It Be That I Should Gain” and the Hymn of Response “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”.  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
