Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

It may be the one passage of Numbers that you have memorized. Many of us have heard it for years at the end of worship services as the pastor gives the benediction. “May the Lord bless you and keep you…”  This week we will turn our attention to Numbers 6:22-27. In this passage we find the Aaronic Blessing, the benediction that the Lord commanded the priests of Israel to speak over the congregation. As we study this passage we will come to see how the Lord intends the blessing of his presence to rest among his people through the words of the priest. And through our study we will come to see how we are to receive the blessing of God’s presence through the work of Christ on our behalf. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 6:22-27, Psalm 123, 1 Timothy 2:5 and Westminster Confession of Faith 8.

This week we will celebrate that sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during our worship service. As we receive the elements of bread and wine look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. For as we physically receive the signs of the Lord’s body and blood, spiritually we feed upon him and all his benefits. Our hymns for this week include “O Lord, How Shall I Meet You,” “There Is a Redeemer,” and “The Communion Hymn”
