We all use little tricks to help us remember important information and events. Maybe you write yourself notes or tie a string to your finger. In high school I would use mnemonic phrases to help me remember lists, such as the order of the planets (My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas). It is easy to forget even the most important information and experiences. In our passage for this Sunday the Lord commands the Israelites to tie tassels on the edge of their garments so that they will remember to obey His commandments. It is designed to be a constant reminder to offer one’s life in total obedience to the Lord. How are you reminded to live in obedience to the Lord? What daily habits or memory tricks have you put into your life to be a constant reminder of your calling to be holy unto the Lord? For we all must remember that we who belong to the Lord are to be holy as He is holy. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 15, Leviticus 11:44, Deuteronomy 7:6-11, 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13, Hebrews 12:14 and Westminster Confession of Faith 13.1.
As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “May the Peoples Praise You”, the Acclamation of Praise “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” and the Hymn of Response “And Can It Be That I Should Gain” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
