Preparing for the Lord's Day

Last week we began a new summer sermon series Sunday entitled "Missio Nexus: Where Life & Mission Connects." As a church, we want to be connected to God's mission where it is happening, so we’re going to look at the people and places where God would have us connect our lives with his mission. This Sunday we will look at connecting with his mission on the athletic field. Whether playing or watching, sports are incredibly popular and are an area of life that desperately needs the gospel.

For this Sunday, I'll share how we bring the gospel to the athletic field. We will look at 1 Corinthians 9:19-27, and see that Paul gives us a good framework to live by as we seek to share Christ with athletes. It takes a willingness to lay down our selfish desires for the sake of the gospel. Yet we will see the price is so much better than any trophy or prize the world can offer. May the God of grace prepare our hearts to receive His word with thanksgiving and respond properly to it

I'm grateful to have one of our elders, Bert Murphy, assisting me this Sunday as he will be leading us through the service as we sing the hymns, “Be Thou My Vision", “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us", and “May the Mind of Christ My Savior”.
