Praying for Gospel Boldness

Pastor: David Weber Series: Acts Scripture: Acts 4:23–31

Acts

This Sunday, we’ll look at Acts 4:23–31, where the early church responds to persecution not with fear but with boldness. After Peter and John are threatened by the same authorities who crucified Jesus, they return to their friends and lift their voices together in prayer. They ask not for safety or escape but for courage to continue proclaiming the gospel. This passage challenges our instincts and comforts our fears. In a world that is increasingly resistant to the exclusive claims of Christ, we need to be reminded that our calling is not to avoid conflict but to speak with boldness. Join us as we explore how we, like the early church, can stand firm in faith, grounded in God’s sovereignty, united in community, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. To prepare your heart for the sermon, take time this week to read and meditate on Acts 4:23-31, Psalm 2:1-2; 146, Isaiah 35:3-4, Luke 12:4-7, Romans 8:17-28, Ephesians 5:18, Hebrews 10:24-25, and this article on Boldness.

As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Tell Out My Soul,” the Acclamation of Praise, “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less,” and the Hymn of Response “The Romans Doxology.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
