Rivermont will host the Blue Ridge Baroque chamber string ensemble, one of Virginia’s professional Baroque ensembles, which performs classical music from the Baroque era (approximately 1600-1750) on period instruments made during that age or on exact replicas. Because these ancient instruments are different than modern ones of the same name, they require the performers to adopt a distinctive technique, bringing the performer closer to the historical performance practice of that day, and thereby do reveal a unique and profoundly beautiful aesthetic commonly unheard by modern ears. Blue Ridge Baroque hopes to act as a time machine, transporting the listener to aurally experience this stunning music of the courts and church four centuries ago, before bows and gut strings gave way to strength and steel. Our beautiful harpsichord will accompany the ensemble.
