Coronavirus Update #11 (6-3-20)
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8).
Dear Rivermont Family and Friends,
During this season of the coronavirus and social unrest, our sovereign and loving God has entrusted us with an opportunity to display “the hope we have within us” to a world in panic. While maintaining trust in our loving Savior, we also grieve the death of George Floyd and racial injustice. As the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3), we confess that “the LORD knows our frames, remembers that we are dust,” (Psalm 103:14) and cherishes us as His children. With Isaiah, may we proclaim, “I will trust in the Lord and not be afraid” (Isaiah 12:2).
Corporate Worship with Communion at 8:00am and 11:00am
This Sunday we will continue to worship with resilient hope in our sanctuary at 8:00 and 11:00 AM and through an on-line offering. The identical services in the sanctuary will follow our established social distancing measures and require you to wear face coverings. Since we will continue to limit each service to 150 participants, look for a separate email for sign-up.
In the sanctuary, we will also embrace Christ at His table. While the Lord’s Supper will look a little different, praise God that we know that Christ is with us in Spirit! In each pew where bulletins will be located, you will find individual prefilled cups with soft wafers on the pew rack. The instructions on Sunday will be simple: peel back the air-tight seal to eat the wafer; peel back the second seal to drink the juice; and follow the pastor’s instructions so that we will enjoy the elements together.
Discipleship and Prayer
On-line Zoom discipleship groups remain our primary means of gathering until we can open the building safely. Zoom Adult Sunday School classes will meet at 9:30 AM. Please explore available classes on our website by clicking here. The Men’s Dawn Patrol gathers by Zoom on Tuesday mornings at 6:30 AM, and the Women’s Oasis Bible Studies meet on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. While many are praying fervently for our students, children, and infants, Children’s Church and the nursery remains closed until we can minister safely.
Each Sunday, you are invited to join the pastors for on-line prayer at 4:00 PM through the Rivermont by clicking here. On the website, you may also list your prayer concerns and needs. As Janet Freshour provides daily updates for pastoral prayer and follow-up, you may also email your prayer requests to Janet by clicking here.
A Call to Lament, Prayer, and Fasting on Monday June 8
While the Church mourns the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church will be joining our denomination in a call to lament, prayer, and fasting on Monday June 8. Please click here to review the call from our denomination. With plans to meet in our sanctuary during the noon hour on Monday, please look for a separate email for sign-up later this week.
The pastors and staff continue to monitor the situation and meet regularly to determine if changes need to be made. Any updates will be published on our website, sent by email, and posted to Facebook. May the Lord continue to bless and keep us!
