Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

True Grace

1 Peter Sermon Series

This week we come to the end of our study of the book of 1 Peter. In these final verses Peter offers his concluding thoughts and greetings. Throughout his letter to exile Christians Peter has continually pointed to the central importance of the grace of God in Christ Jesus (1:2,10,13; 3:7; 4:10; 5:5,10). It should be no surprise, therefore, that Peter summarizes his thoughts as the “true grace of God.” Peter’s aim throughout the letter has been to point Christians to the true gospel, the true grace that we have been given by God through Jesus Christ. This true grace has not been earned but comes freely. This grace does not produce licentiousness but holiness. This grace does not isolate but draws all Christians into the family of God. To come prepared for our final sermon on 1 Peter take time this week to read and to meditate upon 1 Peter 5:12-14, Mark 3:31-35, Romans 5:18-6:4, Ephesians 2:8-10, Jude 4 and Westminster Shorter Catechism #33-35.

As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “To God be the Glory, the Acclamation of Praise “There is a Redeemerand the Hymn of Response “Before the Throne of God Above  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
