Preparing for the Lord's Day

Flourishing Gospel Relationships

Have you ever been stuck behind a truck on the highway with its left blinker on? You're not sure if the driver forgot to turn it off or is hesitating, trying to decide whether to change lanes. Maybe they're weighing the pros and cons of moving over, leaving you waiting, unsure if it's safe to pass. You want to make a move, but the uncertainty holds you back. So you stay behind the truck, feeling stuck, frustrated by the indecision ahead of you.

Life often feels like this—stuck behind a wall of indecision. You’re unsure which direction to take or when to act. Sometimes, the stakes are low, like choosing where to have lunch. Other times, indecision can be more serious, such as when immediate action is needed in an emergency.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been studying our church's mission and vision. Last week, I called the congregation to take action, encouraging you to pursue the vision of flourishing gospel relationships through Spirit-empowered worship, discipleship, and mission. This week, we turn to Deuteronomy 30, where we see a similar call: to decide to pursue an abundant, flourishing life in the Lord. This decision is of the utmost importance because the stakes are eternal. We must choose life. To come prepared for the sermon, take time this week to read and meditate upon Deuteronomy 3:11-20, Joshua 24:14-15, 1 Kings 18:21, John 10:10, Romans 10:6-9, Hebrews 6:17-18, James 1:5-8, and this article on the book of Deuteronomy

As we gather to worship our loving Father this Lord’s Day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “All Creatures of Our God and King,” the Acclamation of Praise “Jesus!  What a Friend for Sinners,” and the Hymn of Response “All Glory Be to Christ.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives so that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
