Preparing for the Lord's Day
Thanksgiving
What does it mean to give thanks in every circumstance? For many, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on blessings and express gratitude for the good things in life. But what about when life feels more like a curse than a blessing? When hardship, betrayal, or loss weigh heavy - how can we genuinely give thanks in those situations?
This Sunday, we’ll reflect on the life and struggles of Joseph. He was a man who faced immense suffering yet came to see God’s hand at work through his trials. His story reminds all of us that what we often perceive as a curse is, in fact, God’s cause. It is a part of His sovereign plan to bring about good, even through evil.
As we turn our attention to the story of Joseph in Genesis 45:1-15, we will consider how recognizing God’s sovereignty frees us to extend grace to others, to give thanks in all circumstances, and to trust in His plan for our salvation and His glory. To prepare your hearts for the worship, take time this week to read and meditate on Genesis 45:1-15, Isaiah 45:5-7, Acts 2:22-24, Romans 8:28-30, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, and this article on Giving Thanks.
As we gather to worship our loving Father this Lord’s Day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “All Praise to God, Who Reigns Above,” the Acclamation of Praise “When I Survey the Wonderous Cross,” and the Hymn of Response “How Firm a Foundation.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
