Trust is fragile. I’ve heard it said it must be built over a lifetime, yet can be lost in a moment. According to a 2025 study, Only 34% of Americans say “most people can be trusted”, down from 46% in 1972. Jesus’s first recorded sermon talked about trust. He called his audience to “repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15) What makes Jesus – and the Christian God – uniquely worthy of such trust? What does it take for us to live a life of trust in the person and promises of God? These are the questions we’ll answer this Sunday as we consider Genesis 12:1-4. As we prepare to hear God’s Word this Lord’s Day, may this not be true of us. Let us ask God to grant us the faith that “comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) Pray that our “faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s Day, we will join our hearts and voices in singing the Hymn of Praise “The God of Abraham Praise,” the Acclamation of Praise “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less,” and the Hymn of Response “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, receive it in faith, and obey it that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
