Preparing for the Lord's Day
We conclude our series entitled, Jesus, a Friend of Sinners this Sunday. I remember hearing a powerful testimony when I was in high school. It was from a musician who gave a concert in our church's youth group. His name was Skid Row Joe and he had lived the sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll life before Jesus saved him. It was a gripping story of what life looked like before Christ and after Christ. I remember telling him later how I wished I had his testimony. I'll never forget what he told me (you'll have to listen to my sermon to find out what he said!!).
As we look at our last encounter Jesus had with the lost, it takes place in Gentile country. Specifically an area on the eastern part of the Sea of Galilee. They had just survived a terrifying storm on the lake and no sooner had they come on shore than they faced another violent storm, but this was no natural storm, it was a supernatural storm. As Jesus engages a demonized man, we will see the real nature of the sin of salvation and of mission. To prepare for our time in the Word, I would encourage you to read our sermon text, Mark 5:1-20. You might also read the last part of chapter 4 as a lead-up.
As we seek to worship our great God in spirit and in truth, we will be guided by the hymns: "He Will Hold Me Fast," "Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!" and "In Christ Alone." I look forward to seeing you this Lord's Day.
