Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? It means we are following him, learning from him, and wanting to become like him. He is our Lord and Savior, and in response to the grace that has been extended, we should desire to live for Him, knowing the purpose of discipleship is to be found without spot or blemish. This is not an easy process and one that takes time. In 2 Peter 3:14-18, we are told to be diligent, but also the Lord is patient with us as we follow Christ. We must also be aware that people in this desire to mislead us and carry us away from Jesus so discipleship can protect us. Finally, the process of discipleship is rooted in grace as our Savior tenderly leads and guides us and transforms us by the power of the Holy Spirit. You can also read Exodus 12:5, Luke 14:25-33, James 3:1, 1 Peter 1:19, Ephesians 4:14-19, and Philippians 2:12.

As we gather to bring glory to God alone on this second Sunday of Advent and remember the peace we have in Christ, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Processional Hymn “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus,” the Acclamation of Praise “Good Christian Men Rejoice,” and the Hymn of Response “What Child is This?”  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives so that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
