Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

After Darkness, Light - 2018 Advent Sermon Series

Cancelling church services this past Sunday has presented us with a bit of a challenge and an opportunity. Since we were unable to corporately celebrate the second Sunday of Advent this past week, we have decided to squeeze two Advent services into one Sunday. You read that right; two services, one Sunday! The 8:30 and 11:00 am services will feature different hymns, different readings, and different sermons. The earlier service will reflect what we had planned to do for the second Sunday of Advent and the later service will reflect what we planned for the third Sunday of Advent. You are welcome to attend both services! But if you can’t, we encourage you to listen online to the sermon you missed. If you plan to come to the early service, make sure to reference last week’s Cupola Express for the preparatory readings and hymn selections. To come prepared for the later service, take time this week to read and meditate upon 2 Corinthians 4:1-6, Gensesis 1:1-5, Psalm 36:7-9, Hebrews 1:1-3, and Westminster Confession of Faith 8.

As we gather this third Sunday of Advent, we will join our hearts in song, singing in the second service the Hymn of Praise “Joy to the World,” the Acclamation of Praise “Good Christian Men, Rejoice,” and the Hymn of Response “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing.”  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!

If you’re going to be out of town this Sunday, let me encourage you to listen to the sermon online (usually posted by Monday afternoon) or you can download the REPC podcast, which will be delivered to your mobile device.
