Preparing For The Lord's Day

Preparing for the Lord's Day

I think that most of us have experienced it in some form or another. You go on a retreat or attend a conference and reach a spiritual high. You feel a communion with the Lord in a special way and dedicate yourself to pursuing His ways in your life. “I will give my life to missions!” “I will share the gospel with every waitress I ever meet!” “I will pray for an hour every morning!” Yet when you get back home things change. You find yourself at work on Monday morning and the feeling of closeness to the Lord is gone. You might have had a spiritual high but in just a short time you are feeling a spiritual low. While special experiences in the Lord can be very important every Christian needs regular communion with the Lord that is not characterized by extremes. We all need communion that is accessible in our daily lives, communion that will sustain over the long haul. In our passage for this Sunday we will see the pattern of offerings that the Lord has established so that His people would have regular communion with Him. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Numbers 28-29, Psalm 141:1-2, Isaiah 58:13-14, Ephesians 2:13 and Westminster Shorter Catechism #19, 20.

As we gather to worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit this Lord’s day, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “Praise the Lord: Ye Heavens Adore Him”, the Acclamation of Praise “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” and the Hymn of Response “I Need Thee Every Hour” Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
