Preparing for the Lord's Day
Easter Sunday
This Easter, we will gather to celebrate the victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is not just an event in history, but it is the decisive moment that changes everything. Our sermon will focus on the reality that, apart from Christ, we are trapped. We are enslaved to sin, bound by shame, and powerless to free ourselves. Though we often convince ourselves that we are in control, the truth is revealed when we try to change and feel the chains tighten. But Easter declares the good news: Jesus Christ has risen, and with his resurrection comes victory. He has defeated sin, conquered Satan, and broken the power of death. Through his resurrection might, he sets his people free. To come prepared for our Resurrection Day sermon, take time this week to read and to meditate upon Matthew 28:1-20, Psalm 103:8-12, Isaiah 52:7, Luke 4:18-19, Acts 1:6-8, Romans 5:6-11, Ephesians 1:19-23, Colossians 2:13-15, and this article on Saint Patrick.
This Easter Sunday we will celebrate that sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during our worship service. As we receive the elements of bread and wine, we look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. For as we physically receive the signs of the Lord’s body and blood, spiritually we feed upon him and all his benefits to us. Our hymns for this week include “Jesus Christ is Risen Today,” “I Am the Bread of Life,” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
