Aloha! Surf’s up at Outrigger Island, our Summer Bible School!
This year our Summer Bible School will be held in the mornings of July
21–25, with our Commencement Program on Sunday evening, July 27th. In Psalm
86:11, we are instructed, “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your
truth.” This tropical adventure will help equip our children to stand on God’s
word in today’s world of “shifting sands.” Stop by our “Island Hut” registration
table in the Cheatham Room and sign up to register your
children. Be sure to take extra forms and invite friends and neighbors! Summer
Bible School is open to all rising pre-kindergarten students through rising 5th
graders. Let’s make this a church-wide adventure for all!
For Children's Refreshments, we need boxes of goldfish crackers,
400 cupcakes (vanilla w/ white icing), 400 Little Debbie Oatmeal pies (12 to a
pack), and 400 fruit cups. If you can help provide some of these, please call
Jeanmarie Harris at 384-6116.
We Also Need: empty cardboard rolls from paper towels and toilet
tissue. There is a special drop-off container for these under the bulletin board
near the Fellowship Hall.
Ladies: Our Mid-Atlantic
Presbytery Retreat is August 15-17 in
Black Mountain, NC. Early-bird registration before July 10! Please see our
bulletin board, opposite the Library, for more information and registration
forms.
Rivermont Weekday Preschool: Registration is underway for
enrolling your young child for Fall 2008 in our Christ-centered, preschool
readiness program for ages one – pre-k. Call Treasa Plude or Debbie Chennault
(846-3441) to come visit our school and inquire about registration.
Calendar Correction for Special Missions Evening: Please note that
the July calendar mailed recently with the Rivermont Press incorrectly shows a
"Special Missions Evening" on Wednesday, July 30. The correct date and venue are
Wednesday evening, August 13, at 7:00 pm, in the John Knox Room.
Hospice of Virginia Volunteer Training: at "The Oaks of
Lynchburg," Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Helping someone in the last weeks and months of their life is a gratifying
experience for Hospice of Virginia volunteers every time they make a visit.
Hospice of Virginia also offers information sessions about death and dying, the
stages of grief, and other topics. For more information, please call Dolly Buck,
Coordinator of Volunteer Services, at 434-392-9666.
The 2008 Flower Calendar is posted on the bulletin board in
the back hallway. If you wish to donate sanctuary flowers on a Sunday in the
coming year, please sign your name on the line by your preferred date.
