Arrival
and Departure Policies:
Please
bring your child no earlier than the 9:00 AM arrival time. Our
teachers are busily preparing for the day's activities prior to
this time. Also please be prompt in picking up your child at
12:00 Noon. A late fee of $5.00 per 15 minutes must be imposed
after 12:05 PM.
Always
sign your child in, writing down any information we would need
to be aware of. All of your child's belongings need to be
labeled with your child's name. Please have at least two diapers
in your child's bag if your child is still in diapers. Always
make sure any personal items which could be unsafe for children
are not left in the child's diaper bag (medications, pins, money,
etc.).
Always
keep a change of clothes in the bag, including an extra
pair of socks. We do have fun at school and your child may get
dirty. Please don't let your child wear an outfit which could
cause a problem if paint, for example, was accidentally spilled.
Play clothes are best for preschool. Shoes for running and
climbing - please no slick bottom dress shoes. Send a sweater or
jacket for changeable weather. In winter send a hat or cap and
mittens.
As you
park and drive your car through our parking lots, please
drive very slowly - always looking out for our little ones.
We ask you never to pull up in front of the Nursery entrance
doors to run your child in. This creates a potential accident.
Always park in designated parking spaces. Parents, always hold
your child by the hand as you come and go from cars to the
building.

diseases that your child has contracted so that we can take
precautions to further insure that they are not spread. All
information will be held in the strictest confidence.
Discipline
Policy:
Our
primary goal in guiding and working with young children is for
everyone to understand that discipline is the slow, bit by bit,
time-consuming task of helping children see the sense of acting
in a certain way. (There are reasons for God's rules and laws -
for our good and well being.) We can achieve this best by
providing a proper environment, anticipating trouble and by
giving gentle reminders. Where unacceptable behavior occurs we
will acknowledge that and show and model appropriate behavior,
praising and encouraging good behavior. Often situations can be
worked out between children. We hope to teach skills enabling
the child to problem-solve and be prepared to live within
society; however, no child will be allowed to infringe upon another's
well being. We strongly believe that if we give children the
security of limits, we can direct them back to the right path
with loving correction. No child will be roughly handled or
spanked with or without the permission of the parent. We feel
that when words have been unsuccessful and the child is beyond
listening or talking to, if necessary, the child should be
removed from the group for a short renewal time. We reserve the
right to make the determination that a child may need to be
withdrawn from the program.
Rivermont
Evangelical Presbyterian Church Biting Policy:
Biting is a
situation that can occur with young preschool
age children. There are several obvious reasons
for a young child to bite. Biting
is sometimes a young child’s first instinct
when they are unable to express themselves
verbally. At this young age children are
learning about their world through their sense
of taste/their mouth. Also, this is a time when
the young child has a heightened awareness of
his mouth/teeth due to teething discomforts. A
child who is teething gets some relief from
“teething” on toys and teething objects, so
possibly a child projects this realization that
using their teeth “relieves” teething distress
and translates that into using their teeth to
relieve other commonly occurring playtime
frustrations. Please know that our excellent
teachers are at all times actively engaged in
overseeing their class of young children but a
biting incident can happen too fast for a
teacher to prevent it. Here are the steps we
take when a biting occurs:
-
The first time
your child bites you will receive a call
from the director prior to picking your
child up to notify you this occurred if you
can be reached by phone. If you cannot be
reached by phone prior to picking up your
child, the director or teacher will
privately notify you your child has bitten
when you pick him/her up.
-
If your child
was bitten you will receive a phone call
from the director notifying you that your
child was bitten and steps that were taken
or that need to be taken. If you cannot be
reached prior to picking your child up the
director or teacher will privately notify
you that your child was bitten when you pick
him/her up.
-
The second
time a child bites the above procedures will
be followed along with being notified that
if the child bites the third time, the
parent will be called to pick up the child
from school.
-
If the child
bites a third time, the child will be
removed from the class immediately and the
parent will be called to pick up the child
from school. A conference will be scheduled
among the parents, the teachers, and the
director before the child returns to
school. The director will make the
determination what step should next be taken
to remedy the situation.
-
Your child’s
personal physician should evaluate any bite
mark that breaks the skin.
-
This problem
will only be discussed by telephone or after
school hours and of course we will be happy
to conference with you at any time as we all
strive to better understand the situation.

occur. As part of these precautions our nursery doors are locked
after 9:15 AM and remain locked until 11:50 AM. This should accommodate
you as you bring your child to school and as you pick him or her
up. Please remember, should you arrive after 9:15 AM and before
11:50 AM you must use the upper office doors of the church. We apologize
for any inconvenience however, your children's welfare and
safety are our major concern.
