Christian Education Ministries

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE

This is the Sessional Committee that seeks to help our congregation grow in their knowledge and wisdom of Jesus Christ and His Church, as well as grow in love and appreciation of one another.

The Christian Education Committee is responsible for:

A. Spiritual nurture in the membership of our congregation.

B. Oversight of our Sunday School.

I. Nominate Sunday School teachers to Session

2. Evaluate and recommend curriculum to the Session.

3. Determine the educational goals and objectives of the Sunday School.

4. Nominate a Superintendent of the Sunday School to the Session.

5. Analyzes and evaluates the Sunday School Program.

6. Recommends to the Session overall policies of the Sunday School in regards to personnel, curriculum, space, and activities of various groups.

7. Plans for the growth of our Sunday School.

8. Recommends to the Session the financial resources needed to carry out our Sunday School Program.

9. Monitors facilities and equipment, and works toward upgrading both.

10. Provides for teacher training.

C. Youth Groups

1. Nominates Youth Leaders to the Session.

2. Evaluates needs of our youth, and plans accordingly. 

3. Approves plans for Youth Retreats, outings, etc.

4. Monitors Ad Hoc Youth Council.

D. Church Nursery and Children's Ministries

1. Recommends staff to Session.

2. Designs and approves curriculum.

3. Recommend policy to Session.

4. Presents budget needs to Administrative Committee and Board of Deacons. 

E. Church Preschool

1. Monitors Pre School Board of Directors.

F. Library

1. Oversees ordering new books and resources.

2. Encourages congregation to maximum use of library. 

3. Recruits staff needed for library.

4. Monitors the Ad Hoc Library Committee.

G. Childrens Church

1. Recruit, train and schedule Leaders and Helpers. 

2. Develop, approve and coordinate curriculum.

3. Provide and schedule music leadership.

H. Other Areas of Responsibility

1. Rivermont Fellowship Night

2. Summer Bible School

3. Book table (upon request)

The committee will recommend to the Session the financial resources needed to carry out its ministry by September I of each year.

Committee will serve as an advisor to the Director of Christian Education

The Director of Christian Education is the principal staff resource person to this committee. This in no way limits other staff persons from working with this committee, if needed.
