CHRISTIAN EDUCATION VISION STATEMENT
Throughout
its history, Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church has
sought to stand for the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ
as it is revealed in Scripture and interpreted by the
Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechism. In our day, when
there seems to be a steady erosion of the content of the
Christian Faith in many areas of the church-at-large, the
present Christian Education staff and officers of Rivermont
Evangelical Presbyterian Church gladly and enthusiastically seek
to continue to stand for and proclaim the everlasting Gospel of
Jesus Christ
The heart of the Gospel is this: Jesus Christ, the Eternal
Son of God came to this earth by becoming a man to save us from
the inevitable result of our sin which is death (spiritual
separation from God). "For the wages of sin is
death" (Romans 6:23). He said, "I came not to
be served but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for
many" (Matthew 20:23). He suffered and died on the
cross to take the punishment for the sins of those who would
believe on him. "He himself bore our sins in his body on
the cross ... By the wounds you have been healed" (I
Peter 2:24). "He rose from the dead to give us new life,
and might have it abundantly" (John 10:10). The Bible
says, "If any one is in Christ, he is a new creation:
the old is passing away, behold the new is coming" (2
Corinthians 5:17).
While
we in the Christian Education Program of Rivermont Evangelical
Presbyterian Church believe that it is critically important that
the truth of the Biblical Gospel be proclaimed and believed we
also know that we must live the truth of Jesus Christ in
our relationships with one another and in our
outreach
to the world. Therefore, we also seek to develop a warm, caring
fellowship with one another, and to support a growing outreach
both to Lynchburg and to the world-at-large by the proclamation
of the Gospel and various ministries to all sorts of human need
in the name of Christ.
The vision of the Christian Education Program of
Rivermont EvangelicalPresbyterian Church is to provide a
systematic and integrated program for all ages. This
program will have as its very foundation the infallible truths
spoken in Scripture.
Our view has been and will continue to be an Orthodox, Reformed,
evangelical interpretation of the Scripture.
Further, realizing the changing complexion of the body of
believers at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the
program will be so designed as to accommodate these changes
without compromising or weakening the stated
positions of the
church. All the programs and functions that fall under the
supervision of the Christian Education Program will be so
structured and organized that when they are woven together they
will present the saving Grace of Jesus Christ in a clear and
unmistakable manner. And the program will also aid the believers
in the development of their "Spiritual Gifts," and in
the equipping of them to serve the Lord in the Church, the
community, and the world.
