About Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF REPC

Rivermont has always believed that the door of the church ought to be as wide as the gate of heaven. Therefore, we have no narrowly defined denominational doctrinal requirements for our members.

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior and are seeking to serve him as your Lord in the fellowship of his church, you may become a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church and participate officially in its life and work by meeting with the elders--usually briefly before a Sunday worship service. The elders receive members in one of three ways:

BY PROFESSION OF FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

If you have never made an official, public Profession of Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and become a full member of a Christian Church, you may make such a profession of faith affirming the above listed five questions before our Board of Elders which is called the Church Session. If you have not been baptized, either as an infant or as an adult, you will be baptized in connection with your profession of faith.

BY TRANSFER

We gladly receive into our membership by transfer anyone who is a member of a church of any Christian denomination and who will reaffirm the above questions. We do not re-baptize, but accept as valid any baptism with water by any mode (sprinkling, pouring, immersion) in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. If you will give us the address of the church of which you are presently a member, we shall be happy to write for your transfer.

BY REAFFIRMATION OF FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

If the church of which you are now a member does not grant transfers to congregations of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, or if it has been a very long time since you were active in the life of the church where you are now a member, you may become a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church by reaffirming your faith in Jesus Christ by answering affirmatively the five questions above. Again, we do not re-baptize. If you can give us the name and address of the church where you are now a member, we shall inform them of your decision.

AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

If you are in Lynchburg only temporarily, such as a student or military person, and wish to retain your membership in your church back home, you may become an affiliate member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church by reaffirming the above questions. AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP carries with it all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of full membership except voting in Congregational Meetings and holding office.

We believe there is real opportunity for new life, spiritual growth and Christian service at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church. If you would like to become a member or an affiliate member of Rivermont, or if you would like to further discuss any aspect of our church’s faith, life and ministry, please either call one of the pastors (846-3441) or indicate your desire on a visitor’s card found in the pew racks and place the card you have filled out in the offering plate during the worship service.

If you do not know what it means to trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and serve him as your Lord in the fellowship of the church, we shall be happy to talk with you about it. Please call one of the pastors if he can be of help.

If we can be of assistance to you in any way at all, please do not hesitate to call on us. We are here to serve you.
